Specialized Volunteer Opportunities
Mentors and CASA volunteers require extra training and are more involved than other volunteer opportunities.
MENTOR
Mentors work with young people through Pittsfield Community Connection. Young people need consistent connections with adults. They need someone like you showing up for them once a week to help with homework, play a game, or just hangout. Staff provide training and support through the entire process. Mentors attend a three hour training and monthly check-ins with staff. We ask that mentors make a commitment of meeting with their young person one and a half hours per week for at least one year.
Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)
CASA volunteers serve as advocates (Guardians ad Litum) for children in state-custody cases in Berkshire County Juvenile Court. CASA volunteers advocate for the best interests of each child and make recommendations to the Juvenile Court “care and protection” cases.
CASA has affiliate programs throughout the U.S., and 18 Degrees is certified by the National CASA organization. CASA requires a 30 hour training, which includes court observation time, and a commitment of at least one year.
